Doctor of Business Administration Program

The course, Doctor of Business Administration of Colegio de San Juan de Letran is a program designed to meet the needs of top executives, entrepreneurs and business faculty to contribute to their fields and respond to the needs of society particularly in the management of various government and private agencies. The program combines an in-depth examination of theories and practices in management, specifically research methods and basic disciplines which contribute to the understanding of managerial process. The program seeks to broaden students’ understanding of managerial of the relationship of management national and international issues. Likewise, it is designed to combine practitioners’ experience in academic abstraction in a distinctive curriculum consistent with the mission of the college.

Program Objectives

At the end of the graduate program, students will earn a degree of Doctor of Business Administration (DBA). Specifically, the program has the following objectives:
In-depth understanding of a chosen field of specialization
A strong foundation on business management and research for high-level decision-making in business
Theoretical and empirical competencies and skills in handling management and administrative problems
Interview.

Course Subject Descriptions

Philosophy of Business
Identification and analysis of universal business principles, practices, thoughts and strategies

Advanced Applied Research Methods
Prepares students to conduct quantitative and qualitative research, and to become critical users of others’ research. Examination of conceptual models used to guide research, various methodologies, statistical analysis of quantitative data and the value and application of quantitative analysis.

Advanced Decision Science and Analysis
Application of quantitative research methods to practical business related problems. Emphasis is on developing greater skill in the area of statistical data analysis.

Management Ethics and Social Responsibility
Every organization operates in a social environment. An awareness of obligations to fellowmen and community are of prime importance for the business and public manager who must avoid entanglements of materialism and remain true to his Christian ideals. It is the purpose of this course to sharpen this awareness.

Project Planning, Development and Evaluation
Various stages, technique and models of project feasibility study preparation from its planning stage, development and evaluation and appraisal stages.

Monetary and Fiscal Policy
Monetary and Fiscal policies interdependence, tools of monetary and administration of budget, budgeting revenue and funds management.

Enterprise Analysis
Evaluation of productive enterprise in business and industry, description and causes of business failure, review of such factors as energy, shelter, agri-business, industrial benefit analysis, and profitability.

Strategic Management
The course covers a study of corporate strategy, supplemented by sessions with top level practitioners in school administration, government, and industry.

International Economics
International economic institutions, national and regional trade policies and development, trends in foreign markets, international monetary problems, interrelationships between international trade and economic growth, and the impact on economic stability.

Comparative Management Systems
Review and analysis of different management systems in selected regions of the world. The framework for the comparisons includes environmental factors such as cultural, economic, socio-political, and legal systems of each region. The focus is on management philosophies as they relate to business and industry and government relationships, organizational structures, union-management relations and human resources.

Legal Aspects of Business
Government laws and policies affecting labor and industrial relations, capital, investment, taxation, and related legal issues.

International Marketing
Methods applied to estimate potential and to select pricing and distribution strategies; communications to serve markets outside the Philippines; methods to serve these markets through branches, warehousing operations, international brokers and traders and foreign affiliates; adaptations to markets in countries with different cultural, political and economic characteristics; review of marketing and distribution methods of a selected number of Philippine and foreign companies.

Marketing for Non-profit Organizations
Marketing dimensions and models for non-profit and purely service-oriented institutions, like government, charitable, trade, social and civic organizations.

Development Economics
This course introduces the main theories of government in the economy and applies these theories to specific economic problems such as transportation and communication, delivery of social services, government regulations and corporate responsibility. Throughout, the emphasis is on the arguments for and against government intervention in the economy.

Special Topics in Management
The course consists of reviewing literature in the subject chosen for the dissertation under the guidance of a faculty professor.

Corporate Finance
Analysis of financial markets, what determines asset process, how prices of different securities relate to one another and what portfolios investors should hold. Topics covered include cash-flow analysis and project evaluation, capital structure, securities evaluation, leasing, mergers and acquisition and credit analysis.

Comparative Banking Systems
Internal banking regulations, regional banking policies and banking models in different countries.

Graduate Seminars
The course involves the presentation of the first three chapters (The Problem and its Background, Review of Related Literature and Research Methodologies) of the draft of the dissertation.

Admission Requirements

  • A master’s degree in Business Administration or Management or its equivalent.
  • Submission of original transcript of records of masteral degree with special order number showing above average ability or an average not lower than 85%.
  • Written recommendations which demonstrate strong qualities to pursue the doctoral program.
