On September 3, the Letran Filipiniana Dance Company (LFDC) won first runner-up at the 21st Philippine Travel Mart (PTM) Cultural Fusion Presentation at Megatrade Halls, SM Megamall.
Filipiniana competed against four schools namely University of Santo Tomas, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), which emerged as champion, University of Northern Luzon, and De La Salle University-Dasmarinas.
According to Asst. Prof. Randy Lero, LFDC coach/trainer, the group showcased a tableau which featured the different cultural dances of the Philippines and the evolution of dances accompanied by a mixture of traditional and modern music.
Lero added that the dancers performed the colorful dances of Northern Luzon and Mindanao tribes.
Another cultural group managed by the Office of Student and Cultural Affairs, Templar Chorus of Letran, joined the Eco-Chorale Competition on September 5.
Templar performed two songs – “Salamin ng Langit” and “Circle of Life” – to compete against PLM, St. Paul Manila College of Music, University of Perpetual Help Dalta System, and Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
The three-day event was organized by the Philippine Tour Operators Association with the theme “WOW! I Love Philippines! Byahe Na!” advocating domestic tourism./ Ma. Magnolia Magsumbol
