It has long been the dream of many Letranites to have an air-conditioned gymnasium. Late 2010, the dream finally became reality when 75-tonner Samsung air-conditioning units were installed. When the Rector’s Knights Affair was held late September 2010, the gymnasium (now the Blessed Antonio Varona, O.P. Gymnasium) was wonderfully cool. It was also air-conditioned in time for the alumni homecoming that November.
The efforts of the administration did not go unnoticed as appreciative alumni started to sponsor the air-conditioners unit by unit. H.S. ’67 alumnus, Robert Lim Joseph started the ball rolling by paying for two units. Soon enough, Charlie Yu of H.S. 1954 followed suit. Not to be outdone, the officers of the 2010 Letran Alumni Association, Inc. (LAA, Inc.) and the Letran Alumni Foundation (LAFI) each defrayed the cost of a unit. Other sponsors followed namely: William Uy of H.S. 1960, H.S Batch 1960, the alumni members of the Fraternal Order of Knights and most recently the Letran Grupo de Fil-Chinos also sponsored a unit.
