The Letran Knights survived a tough stand from the Mapua Cardinals by edging them in overtime, 69-67. Kevin Alas led the Knights by pouring in 11 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter including a game-tying three that sends the game to extra period. Mapua’s Yousef Taha who led the Cardinals with 18 points and 14 rebounds, blew a chance to win the game by missing a point blank shot in the paint towards the end of the fourth period.

In overtime, came out charging with Jonathan Belorio’s lay-up and Jay Espritu’s trifecta that gave them a comfortable five-point cushion, 66-61. But the Cardinals are not yet ready to wave the white flag and answered back with a three of their own courtesy of Josan Nimes that narrows the gap, 66-64 with over two minutes left in OT. With 17 seconds left in the game, Alas sink his two freethrows for a 68-65 lead but Allan Mangahas was sent to the line by Fanz Dysam with 7.7 left and made both his shots to trim the lead to a solitary point, 68-67.

Mark Cruz’s was intentionally fouled after a timeout from Letran. He made his first shot and missed the second and after a rebound, Nimes raced down the court and missed a buzzer beating three that could have won the game for the Cardinals. The win enables the Knight to sweep their season series against the Cardinals who swept them last season.
