Members of the accreditation team of the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) visited Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s Basic Education Department for a re-accreditation visit on February 13 and 14.

The PAASCU team is composed of seven members, namely: Dr. Cynthia Arcadio, Chairman of PAASCU Commission on Integrated Basic Education; Mrs. Cristina Aliwalas, High School Principal of San Sebastian College-Recoletos; Mrs. Estrella Evelie Alcabedas, High School Academic Coordinator of St. Theresa’s College; Mrs. Elizabeth Peralejo, Media Coordinator of Ateneo de Manila University; Ms. Maricel Ngo, Faculty Member of the School of Holy Spirit; Mrs. Leila Luz Caballa, Guidance and Admissions Director of University of the Assumption; and Mrs. Milagros Contreras, Community Extension Service Coordinator of Colegio San Agustin.

During the visit, the PAASCU Team observed classes, interviewed students and faculty members, as well as the different school personnel and some administrators. They also had dialogues with parents, alumni and representatives from adopted communities. The members also scrutinized the laboratories, buildings, and offices.

The key areas that the PAASCU team evaluated are: Philosophy and Objectives, Faculty, Instruction, Library, Laboratories, Physical Plant, Student Services, Administration, and School and Community.

The faculty members who served as the chairperson for each area are: Ms. Marilou Tolentino. Philosophy and Objectives; Ms. Teresa Magpantay, Faculty; Mr. Edgar Garino, Instruction; Ms. Soledad Boquiren, Library; Ms. Nenita Pascual, Laboratories; Mr. Rodrigo Murillo, Physical Plant; Mr. Jesus Cababa, Student Services; Ms. Cathlea Tongco, Administration; and Ms. Elvira Tabinas, School and Community. Rev. Fr. Orlando C. Aceron, O.P. served as the Executive Self-Survey Chairperson. The self-survey team and their members have been preparing reports, exhibits and other supporting documents for the visit since last year.

Basic education principal Asst. Prof. Felipe Dela Cruz said: “The recent PAASCU visit was truly enlightening on the prospects of integrated basic education program and very enriching in our endeavor for continuous quality Catholic education.”

PAASCU is a private organization that “accredits academic programs that meet commonly accepted standards of quality education.”
