Colegio de San Juan de Letran basic education student Catherine Liz Morgan Estor won four medals at the prestigious Skate Asia 2012 competition held at the Sunway Pyramid Ice Skating Rink in Malaysia on August 2 to 9.

Catherine's repertoire and medal haul includes a bronze in the Technical category (Then You Look At Me), silver medals in the Rhythmic Ribbon (Conga) and Spotlight (Let's Get Loud) categories, and a gold medal in the Artistic category (Dance With My Father).

Boasting a well-executed attitude spin and a Beillmann position, Estor competed with and beat figure skaters from Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

"Hindi ko ine-expect na makakakuha ako ng gold," Catherine said.

Estor's road to the Skate Asia 2012 competition has not been easy. "Financially, it's hard to compete if you're not well-off," Catherine's mom said in Filipino.

Fortunately, Colegio de San Juan de Letran through the generosity of Fr. Tamerlane R. Lana, O.P. and the Letran Elementary Department Parents Association was on hand to help, sponsoring Catherine's shoes, bag, shirts, and cash for a one-day hotel stay in Malaysia.

Catherine now sets her eyes on future competitions, including the Philippine Skate Manila competition in October and the Skate USA 2013 championships in San Diego, California slated on July 2013.
