LETRAN
IN LA MESA JAM
The Bantay Kalikasan
Foundation, an affiliate program of the ABS-CBN Foundation,
sponsored a fund-raising drive called "La-Mesa Jam" last
February 10 at the Philippine Sports Arena (formerly ULTRA), for the
reforestation of the La Mesa Watershed. The affair was highlighted
by nature exhibits and an environmental concert featuring
inter-school band competition and the country’s premier bands such
as Rivermaya, Eraserheads, Brownbeat All Stars, Chill and Wolfgang.
The project primarily aimed to restore the depleting La Mesa Dam,
the very source of Metro Manila’s water supply. Every purchase of
the concert ticket meant a seedling was contributed to the
reforestationof the La Mesa Forest.
Among the 78 participating schools, Letran was named the foremost
institution to respond to the La Mesa Watershed Reforestation
Project, thereby receiving an award of 2-hectare portion of the La
Mesa Forest named after the Colegio.
The LOUNGE, the resident band of the Letran Youth for Christ,
managed to pass the band audition and represented the Colegio in the
Inter-school band competition. With the talents of Errol Roque,
Donna Fay Tria and Arvin Rayala on vocals, Chip Cabanes on lead
guitar, Jeremiah Joaquin on bass, Francis Salazar on keyboard, Mark
Chenilla on percussion and Milo Escueta on drums, LOUNGE placed
second among the ten participating bands. Their performance drew
loud cheers from the audience as a white dove soared for the finale.
With the success of the La Mesa Jam, Gina Lopez-Roy of the ABS-CBN
Foundation, envisions a restored La Mesa Forest that will not only
be the main source of Metro Manila’s water supply but a sanctuary
for many wild animals.
