National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Commissioner Joe Lipa, together with Fr. Victor Calvo, O.P., 81st NCAA season Management Committee (ManCom) chairman, and consultants Nemi Villegas, Romy Guevarra and Ramil Cruz, met on October 28 and assessed the performance of Colegio de San Juan de Letran in the recently concluded 81st NCAA season basketball event.

Commissioner Lipa expressed his satisfaction with how things were handled by the host school together with the ManCom. He commended the ManCom for their responsiveness in circumstances which needed their immediate attention, particularly on the attendance and behavior of the spectators and players during the games.

The security assistance that was implemented during the season was also commended.

Lipa suggested to retain Cuneta Astrodome as a venue for the next season’s basketball games. He said the next host should likewise continue the training of referees and technical committee members before the actual games start.

The group stressed the need for more media mileage of the games. The commissioner believes that media exposure could help the NCAA attract more sponsors to finance its programs and activities.

Commissioner Lipa suggested to schedule the games of the juniors teams alternately with the seniors so that high school students would no longer go home late in the evening. He added the need of scheduling the games during weekends to attract more people, especially alumni. Also, with the proposed schedule, students need not excuse themselves from their classes just to watch the games.

The evaluation and suggestions made by the commissioner, technical committee members and consultants will be given to the next year’s host.
