THE NESTEA Beach Volley 2006 was the hottest summer event in the country this year. It opened doors to superb beach volley talents and showcased exciting games that can surely put you at the edge of your seats.

The Letran Beach Volley Team composed of Bangladesh Pantaleon and Madelaine Mirabueno, was one of the four teams that made it to the Luzon Eliminations held on March 23 at Las Salle Greenhills. They got the chance to go to the island paradise of Boracay to compete with eight other teams from Visayas and Mindanao in the Semi-Finals and Championship rounds held from May 4 to 6.

The College of Saint Benilde bagged the championship followed by the University of San Jose Recoletos, University of Southern Philippines and University of San Agustin in the second, third, and fourth place respectively. Special individual awards for all divisions were also given and a photo contest was conducted for photographers.

Aside from participating in these games, the players, as well as the viewers, all had the chance to attend parties held in Boracay’s hotspots as well as Bamboo’s major concert.

“It’s so cool and fun, lalo pa at Boracay ang venue, we not only had the chance to compete but also a chance to tour the beautiful island!” Mirabueno said “Although mahirap mag-laro at tumatakbo-takbo sa buhangin, nakatulong din yon sa pag-improve ng footwork and stamina naming lalo na at naghahanda kami for the upcoming NCAA 2006. It also gave us the opportunity to make new friends and gain experiences through our games.” Panteleon added.

The Nestea Beach Volley was sponsored by Speedo, Mikasa, Cebu Pacific, Villa de Oro Boracay Beach Resort, Le Soleil de Boracay Hotel, Canon Powershot Digital Cameras, Club Ten Resort, D’Mall D’Boracay, Hey! Jude Resort, Schering-plough Coppertone, La Salle Greenhills, Clickthecity.com, Crystal Sand Resort, Boracay Gold Crowne Club, Bantay Kalikasan ABS-CBN Foundation, and Nautilus by PJ Aranado.
