The Childrens’ Museum and Library Inc. (CMLI), the leading youth organization in the country with the UP Debate Society held The Great Filipino Debate Cup 2009 in Letran last November 21 – 23.
About 90 students from at least 10 schools took part in this year’s gathering of Philippine high school debaters and public speakers in the Asian Parliamentary format.
Four teams from Letran, representing all four year levels joined the debate. Team A which is composed of Archie Franco, Mary Grace Montino (1V – 320) and Thomas Catalan (111 – 31 7) entered the octo – finals but failed to land in semis when they faced University of Sto. Tomas, team C.
Makati Hope A emerged as champion after the preliminary and final rounds with South Ridge B as runner – up. “Each round in the preliminary made us feel more intelligent and more knowledgeable of the world,” commented Keone Haling, a second year delegate from class 314.
The debate was participated in by La Salle Greenhills, Claret, UST, South Ridge, Quezon City HS, Quezon City National HS, Miriam, International Christian Academy, Letran, and Makati Hope.
