November 13 was marked as the official day of Wellness in Letran.  The employees gathered together in the Letran Gymnasium at 7:30 a.m. Mr. Rodrigo Murillo and Ms. Eloisa Labrador-Dulay hosted the wellness launch with the end goal of promoting holistic formation of its employees and providing an avenue to unleash employees potential and enhance personal growth and development. Three hobbies and interests clubs were introduced  together with their respective club moderators, Mr. Randy Lero of the PE department for the Physical Wellness, Mr. Antonino Guerrero for Book and Coffee Lovers and Ms. Rowena Reyes for Photography Club. Each gave a little background as to what was in store and what benefits they would reap from joining these clubs. Ms. Dulay, also announced that there would be more clubs to be launched in the succeeding months like Nature Adventure and Performing Arts.  She also opened the enlistment for Employee Chorale upon the request of Fr. Juan Ponce, O.P.

After the launch, all employees participated in the institutional exercise.  The PE faculty members led the group for a 15-minute exercise. Starting with the warm-up and followed by the actual exercise it ended up with a cool-down activity that made the employees sweat while enjoying the tune of Nobody by Wonder Girls, and other dance musics .

After the institutional work-out, employees went to their respective club of choice.  The morning schedule was devoted for the physical wellness.

Employees either played basketball, volleyball and badminton.  Indoor games such as table-tennis, darts, and board games were also made available to them.

While some employees were too engaged with the physical activity, book lovers club members attended an orientation at the Filipiniana section followed by a film-viewing of Twilight, a movie taken from the best seller novel of Stephanie Meyer. The film-viewing was the first approach of the organizers in setting the mood for members. The interest and appreciation on books will be encouraged and shared, based on the books that they have read would be initial activities.

An afternoon activity intended for members of Photography Club was held at the TV Studio.  An orientation was given by the Director of Media Center, Ms. Rowena Reyes. Members were asked to take pictures which would be used for the first learning session with Mr. Romeo Remalante,  a Communication Arts faculty who was tapped by the HRD to be the adviser of the club.  Participants also had a chance to get an overview of how basic photography works. Mr. Remalante did some photo critiquing on the pictures taken by the participants and gave some tips on how to improve their work.  This also served as a venue for the speaker to categorize the level of membership.  Election of officers was also held after the session and they named the club ARRIBA FOTOGRAPIA.

Employees in general, appreciated the efforts made by the Colegio through the HRD in coming up with a program for them. These were validated from the unedited comments made by the employees  that even some of them asked that these should be done regularly. As reflected in the evaluation, some commented the following :

“The activity was truly an enjoyable one.  Hope this will happen again, if not weekly at least every month.”

“Thank you for providing this type of formation/activity.

“It should be twice a month or every Friday of the week starting from 7:00 – 7:30 or 7:30 to 8:00 am so that it may not affect office hours especially the physical exercise. Even once in a while we should burn our fats and start a healthy habit that would boost our energy and improve our well-being.”

With the positive feedback from employees, the HRD and the Club moderators promised to prepare for more in the succeeding months.
