A fitting birthday gift of the Philippine Province to the Order was the groundbreaking of the Institute of Preaching – Philippine Dominican Studies of Institutional Studies building the afternoon of December 8, 2009. 

It was well-attended by many brothers from different convents.  At 3:00 and 38 seconds in the afternoon, a simple rite was led by the brother Provincial.  In his short sharing, he mentioned the building will indeed be a blessing and gift to the Church in the Philippines and the Order.  “Finally”, he says, “the Province will have an institution entirely devoted to the Dominican charism of Preaching.” 

 
Brother Stephen Redillas, OP, the Director of the Institute, Brother Giuseppe Arciwals, OP, the prior of Santo Domingo, and Brother Hermel Pama, OP, the Moderator of PDCIS helped in the burying of the time capsule containing, among other things, the newspaper for that day, a rosary, the ACTA of the Province and copies of some very important documents concerning the building.
